On Dating A Comedian

I have tendencies to be very silly, especially in the privacy of my own home. Sometimes, I act as though I'm about three years old.

These tendencies aren't new, but I have to say -- now that I'm dating a comic, I no longer get the last laugh.

For example.

This morning, in my living room, I was sitting on my sofa (vacation day!) and Ish was sitting at my desk.

Rather spontaneously, I lifted up my shirt, grabbed my right breast and yelled, "BOOB!"

But instead of being shocked or even laughing, Ish just sort of grinned at me and, not missing a beat, said, "Calling that a boob would be like calling the Titanic a boat."

"I can just see a miniature Leonardo DiCaprio standing on your nipple," he continued, and outstretched his arms and tilted his head back, "I'M KING OF THE WORLD!"

Then he got a serious look on his face and said, oh-so-earnestly, "Don't let go of the areola, Rose. Whatever you do, don't let go."

  2. Oh thank god, I thought my boyfriend and I were the only ones that acted like complete weirdos in the privacy of our home. That’s so adorable, it gives me the warm fuzzies. :)

  3. Ok...I'm glad I'm not the only one out there that does random things like that.

You made me laugh but Ish almost had me on the floor.

I love these little glimpses into your life. Thanks!

  4. Maybe we're ALL weirdos in the privacy of our own homes...Now that we have a child, our weirdness has been modified a bit to be all-inclusive...

Like dancing around to Wiggles songs, and making up our own songs, and "zerberting" each other's bellies...Maybe it's not all that different from before we had a child...Just different songs =p

Also, I loved your Grand Central story - the wistfulness of the road not taken. (I have two seedy stories of proposals I refused, but your story should be a movie with Natalie Portman and, oh, George Clooney, where I see mine as vehicles for Rachel Dratch, Nathan Lane and David Hyde-Pierce.)

  10. Thank god I am not the only person who will randomly turn to her SO and flash while yelling BOOBIES!!! And here I thought I was just strange.

Although I have to admit that while DH loves the random boobie flash, I have never gotten a response as hilarious as Ish's!
