A Special Kind Of Asshole

Without getting political, let me just say that I think this photo perfectly captures the essence of the kind of American foreigners hate:

It's just...SO obnoxious!

I took this photo in my office parking lot when I returned from lunch and watched a gray-haired white male tear into the parking lot and park his vehicle with complete abandon. He parked in the "compact" car area, despite that he was driving a full-sized SUV, then took up two spaces without any concern. He just sauntered out of his car and toward the building without care. I was incensed.

  1. @#$%ing Republicans!
    GRRRR.
Take comfort in the fact that he pays a crapload to fill that tank, and probably burned even MORE gas by tearing into the parking lot. "Take that, you...CONSERVATIVE...GUY!"

  2. Just last week, I saw something similar - another student trying to parallel park with some difficulty, because there was an SUV taking up a third to one half of her parking spot - and about the same amount of the parking spot in front of her. In a part of town with very limited places to park! I thought about taking a picture but I didn't have my camera. Or writing a note on their car, but what would it say? "You're rude."?
I'm glad you posted this. :)

  3. Must be visiting from LA... No wait, most people who pull this crap in LA are botoxed fake boobed women with cell phones stuck to their ear and small dogs on their laps. And they don't generally support the troops.

  4. Buddy.. sounds like a job for youparklikeanasshole.com.
The have notices that you can leave on cars... for this one, I'd choose:
    - thats a compact?
    - over the painted line

and trust me, even though you rarely see the reaction, this little passive-aggressive snuff really makes you feel like a hero - in your own car, as you speed away, hoping that no one you know saw you leave the note.

  5. The notice...keep em in your glove box: http://www.youparklikeanasshole.com/notices/notice_1.pdf

  6. What a jerk!

I met my Dad yesterday at our local IHOP for lunch, and had to park WAY BACK in the lot, because there were FIVE - - count 'em - - FIVE spaces closer that were too narrow to park in . . . because some idiots had parked over the lines!

I'm going to check out that website and print out some of those notices . . . :)

  8. HAHAHAA. This reminds me of a recent trip to Target... I saw a big SUV with a Duke sticker (I live near Duke, went there, work there) parked diagonally across two spaces. So I left them a little note that said, "You're the reason everyone hates Duke. Either learn how to park your vehicle or take the Duke sticker off. Thanks so much! :) A concerned Duke Alum" And yes, I put the smiley on there, too. I wish I'd had my camera, cause I would have totally submitted that to passiveaggressivenotes.com!

  10. I actually talked to a rude-parker recently. In my parking garage at work. I pulled into my compact space with my compact car and across from me was a person driving a GIANT white Yukon who had pulled it into a compact space. I said to him "you know that's a compact space, right?" and he said "yes". Then I gave him the subtle disapproving eyebrow raise (every woman should have this in her repetoire) and said "okay-y" and walked off. I don't keep total track, but I will say that I haven't seen his Yukon in the compact car section since. And I was proud of myself all day long.

  11. Could you do everyone a favor and post this on CL to out the stupid asshole that does this? People like this piss me off. When I used to mash around town in a beat up 4Runner, I'd park as close as I can to their drivers' side, and go about my business. I want the a-hole to have to crawl thru his passenger side to get to the driver's side. My car being parked within centimeters of his car will inconvenience him the way his inconsiderate parking inconveniences the rest of humanity. Thanks for pointing these people out. They need to be outted. We should start a website where we just post pictures of a-holes on the road and in parking lots. :)

  12. You're too nice. I wouldn't have obscured the license plate number on the photo. ;)

  13. Well, I don't have white hair, and I don't park like an asshole, but I do drive an SUV and support the troops.

    Don't hate me, I swear I'm not a prick!

Oh wait, I'm Republican too. I guess I'm hopeless. :(

  15. Don't you know? He's clearly more important than the rest of us. I'm sure he'd just as easily take up a handicapped parking spot if it made something more convenient for him. Because it's all about him.

  16. An "I Support the Troops" sticker on an SUV is highly ironic. You should include that on any notice you decide to place on a poorly parked gas-guzzler.

On a similar note, I remember a story from a while back in Richmond, VA where some SUV's parked on the street were found to have "ELF" burned into them with some type of acid. It kinda made environmental terrorists look good.
So it seems that if SUV drivers really want to support the troops and keep a lid on terrorism, they should drive more fuel efficient vehicles (and park them correctly).

  17. to imply that it's ironic and/or wrong for anyone who drives an suv to have an 'i support the troops' bumper sticker on his/her car is ridiculous. it's ridiculous because perhaps the guy was just a bad car parker. and i like global warming (it's far better than global cooling), i'm voting for dennis kucinich's wife, and i think that when you are faced with a 7 / 10 split you should just go for the ball on the right.

That picture perfectly sums up every parking spot in Boston. I felt my blood pressure spike just looking at it.

  19. I tend to key those folks. I know, it makes me just as bad as them, but I feel so much better . . .

  20. I've got a sticker on the side of my Scion XB that says, "NICE HUMMER. Sorry about your penis."

But now I'm scared to pass a Hummer.

    *sigh*

  21. Look, at least I didn't put it in handicapped spot, like I usually do. I don't see why you have to come down so hard on my parking abilities. And I really do think the troops are a good idea. You know, us being in a "war" and all.

  22. i've come REALLY CLOSE to leaving notes that say "nice parking job, jackass" on cars like that before, but i always pussy out. i am a little in love with this youparklikeanasshole.com site.

  23. I leave notes on the windshields of cars parked like that. Recently, a Mercedes SUV was taking up 2 spaces in the Trader Joe's lot...while three us had to sit and wait for a space to open up. So while I was waiting, I wrote a note saying: "You are using TWO parking spaces in a crowded lot. PAY ATTENTION."

I was so pissed off that I wanted to wait and see who the owner of that car was, but by the time I got a parking space I was running late.

My mom once got a note like that on her car and was mortified, so now she is always extremely careful. (It was in her work parking lot, where she has parked for decades but had a momentary lapse of parking judgment. Not a chronic problem.)

  24. Well, of course he supports the troops. He needs cheap gas.

  25. I drive a 1994 Toyota Corolla, and what I like to do when at all possible, is sneak my car into the space next to them, so that there's literally 1 inch of space between their car and mine. Particularly when it's an SUV, this can make it very difficult for them to get out of the space in a crowded L.A. parking garage.

Yeah, I've even been keyed for it - and it was SO WORTH IT.

  26. !!!!! Wow. This guy deserves a tire slashing.

  27. I can't believe people still key other people's cars.
