My Jesus Year

Hey, remember that time I had a blog?

So, today's the 4th of July and also my birthday. I am 33. This seems totally implausible to me, seeing as I don't really really believe I ever turned 30, and am still kind of amazed I'm even of drinking age.

Ish bought me the Flight of the Conchords DVD and the complete third season of Columbo. You may not think this is romantic, but I am absolutely tickled by Columbo (bad hair, crazy lip gloss, hilarious dialogue, smoking in offices, rich drunk people, and a certain kind of objectification of women you just can't find on tv these days -- what's not to love?). He also got me Rock Band for the Wii.

Our only plans for the whole day are to enjoy these gifts, perhaps with some booze.

This was never how a younger version of me would have expected me to spend my 33rd birthday, but -- save for being a little closer to my family -- I really couldn't be happier.

Happy Fourth!

  8. Hope your birthday was fun, and just wanted to tell you about the tv series called Mad Men. It is set in the late '50s or early '60s and the objectivication of women is unreal. Actually it is so real I can't watch it. Lived and don't want to go there again. However, I did really like Colombo...and still do.

  18. Happy (belated) Birthday! It sounds like it was the perfect day.

(Also, from Conchords, you must have been the prettiest girl in the whole wide room. I love them. I'm pretty sure my boyfriend is jealous of my love for Jemaine...which is kind of ridiculous.)

  19. You are fantastic! You inspire me, and make me feel great about myself. I've just been reading your archives and I love your candor and depth.
You also made me almost wet myself laughing when I read your caption about "In memory of 'Name'". I'm pretty sure everyone who has an office on the same hall as me was wondering what those snorting noises were.

  21. Happy (belated) Birthday!!! You yung'uns being worried about your age crack us oldsters up. (I'll be 41 in September and it doesn't hurt as much as I thought it would to say that.)

I'm so glad you are happy. You deserve it. :-)

  22. Happy belated Birthday too. Loving the Columbo- I never understood why they show who the murderer is at the beginning- and then I realised it's so that we can just sit back and ENJOY watching Columbo work it out. Brilliant stuff.

  28. Mmk. So I recently discovered your blog...and loved it. And then proceeded to read every last drop of the archives...and now I have run out! What else am I supposed to do at work?

seriously-if I were a publisher, I'd publish you. But then if I were a publish I probably couldn't pay you becuase I budget by thinking about pink unicorns..but never mind. I'm officially a fan and whenever your life calms down, I'd love to read more!

p.s. I know I commented on this entry twice...and I'm just now saying Happy Birthday. I'm a bad friend.
